The New Forest

The New Forest doesn’t need much of an introduction but we will try to give it some justice here!

The New Forest is a stunningly beautiful area of the United Kingdom, with a wide array of wildlife that can be seen at close quarters. The National Park has a unique combination of picturesque, ancient woodlands, tranquil river valleys, and rolling heaths, along with quite the variety of animals living within its boundaries. The New Forest is the largest lowland area of heathland in southern England and is home to a variety of habitats, from wet woodland and conifer stands to wide grasslands interspersed with ponds and streams. The New Forest is renowned for its wide-ranging wildlife and is a treasure trove for nature-lovers. The area is home to many fascinating creatures, including red deer, rare butterfly species, hummingbirds and rare flying insects, such as the silver-striped hawk moth. There are also several small mammals that inhabit the New Forest, including hedgehogs and stoats and let’s not forget the free roaming Ponies, Cattle and Donkeys (who doesn’t love a Donkey).

The rivers and ponds are home to some of Britain’s most enchanting freshwater fish, including salmon, brown trout, roach and eel. The New Forest is also a haven for the rare white trout and is a magnet for birds, both resident and migrants, who collectively make up nearly half of the total bird population in England. Some of the bird species that are regularly seen on the forest floor are woodpeckers, woodcocks and various finches. The New Forest is also home to an extensive selection of butterflies, including the rare and nationally protected purple emperor and silver-washed fritillary.

The New Forest is an exciting destination for anyone looking to experience the vibrancy and beauty of Britain's wildlife or simply to have a walk or cycle ride of a lifetime.
